max funkat, born in 1991 in germany, lives and works in berlin. most of his childhood, he spend in nature - hiking, collecting and exploring materials. today, nature is the place for him to process, recharge and find inspiration. this, as well as the need for physical movement, plays a major role in his working method.

centering his work around the crafting process and the physical interaction, he creates a dialogue between him and the material. this relationship, between hands and material, develops during manual work, creating a connection to the analog world and making it tangible.
likewise, personal experiences are incorporated during this process.

this results into objects that tell the story of their own creation and the time it took to be created.

the starting point of his work is his interest in how we perceive the things in our environments - how and whether we connect with them. therefore, he selects conventional materials and attempts to make them appear unusual through processing or staging, thus enabling a different perspective on familiar materials and objects. he aims to focus on materials from nature and our earliest history, in order to question the gap between nature and culture.
